It’s been a while since I have had a chance to update this page but thanks to Twitter I am able to keep up with current tastings. New wines arriving in Alberta and my feeds show up on this page to keep things somewhat up to date.

Jennifer and I recently had a fantastic trip to Spain and I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of wines from three new producers from Bierzo, Utiel-Requena and the Basque country!  The wines should be available before the end of August, see our portfolio page for details about Bodega Cobertizo, Bodegas Vegalfaro and Mendraka.  Later this Fall expect to see even more new wines from different regions of Spain added to the portfolio!

We have received some beautiful new big California wines from our Lake County producer, Shed Horn Cellars, just a few weeks ago – The Non Typical Red and a very limited release Petite Sirah.  I am absolutely in love with this wonderful producer and their wines which show power, beautiful elegance and balance.  The tragic story with a happy ending of an amazing couple, Mike and Adawn Wood who lost both their home and winery in the Lake County forest fires last summer, shortly after we met.  Since then, with a lot of hard work, they have rebuilt the winery and continue to make their small production wines from high-elevation vineyards around Lake County.

From our local Park Distillery in Banff, Alberta, we have just received our first shipment of the new Alpine Dry Gin and it is selling fast!  A London Dry style Gin crafted by my friend Matt Hendriks, it is refined, pretty and elegant; definitely my new favourite Gin and goes down easily with a little tonic and fresh lime on a hot day!  Our weather has been less than ideal the past month but hopefully we will see some more sun in August for a few more G&T’s on the deck.

Our newest arrival are the wines of Clos de Chacras from Argentina.  These wines have been a pleasure to taste with several of our partners in both restaurants and retailers in Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, Lake Louise and Bragg Creek over the past two weeks.  Expect to see these beauties gracing the shelves and wine lists of several of our partners very soon.  I love the personality and terroir-driven character wines from Mendoza!

The newest addition to our portfolio and landing around the middle of September will be the wines from Lavradores de Feitoria from the Douro in Portugal.  A very exciting collective of 19 different Quintas and 15 different Lavradores (farmers) from all 3 regions throughout Douro.  These wines show the traditional character of Douro wines with beautiful polish and balance.  I’m very excited to share these wines with our partners and wine lovers in Alberta very soon!

From Iris Vineyards in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, we have been blessed with even more stock of their beautiful Pinot Noir Rosé of which only 209 cases were produced.  This Rosé has been a huge hit and has been selling fast.  Hopefully our limited stock will last until the end of summer, grab some while you still can!

There are plenty of exciting new things happening for Black Sheep and our valued partners!

Cheers,

Warren
